A woman’s sexual health is an important part of her well-being, quality of life and overall health. At any age a woman may experience a change in sexual desire, orgasm, pain with sex or other health issues related to sexual function. Health problems, medications, stress, relationship issues, and factors related to aging may contribute to the problem.

It is important to have a gynecologic examination, blood work, and complete the Decreased Sexual Desire Screener (DSDS) and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire to properly assess some of these problems. Referral to a marriage, family or sex therapist may be appropriate as well.
