Sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) are infections you can get by having intimate sexual contact with someone who already has an infection. The most common STI’s include: chlamydia, gonorhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus (HPV), trichomoniasis, syphilis, hepatitis B, pubic lice, and HIV. If you are sexually active or planning to become sexually active talk with you doctor about STI screening and ask your partner to be tested as well. You can take steps to protect yourself from STI’s, including using condoms during sexual activity with men and having sex with only one partner who only has sex with you.
